Anyway, Jessica Jones came out yesterday ? Or early this morning, I am not certain but I decided to watch it because why not? When the trailer first came out, I was intrigued by the story line. This was a dark, twisted take on a comic character and it was interesting to see. So I did some research on the character, which is from Marvel Comics and I decided to pick up on her comic book series, Alias. Many reviewers said that Alias was one of the first few comic books in Marvel to be rated R and apparently it was a big deal in the early 2000's. I understand why after reading the whole series.
The first thing I can tell you about Jessica Jones is that her story takes place in the same area as Daredevil, which is Hell's kitchen and I haven't watch Daredevil yet because actually I don't know why. In the comics, Daredevil and Jessica Jones has interaction and somewhat form a friendship between both of them. I am not sure whether they will bring their relationships into the show since I only at the third episode and this series will be 13 episodes long that will tie together with Luke Cage, Daredevil and Iron fist (Excited for that one).
To be honest, so far I like it. I can't guarantee that I will like it later on but right now, it is interesting and thrilling. It is actually quite a dark tale compare to what Marvel is famous for doing and I think they are doing a good job.
A lot of butthurt fanboys always criticizes DC comics for bringing their movie to a dark tale and always praise Marvel for making things funny and light-hearted. And right now, they are praising Marvel for turning it dark. Seriously? How hypocrite are you assholes? I mean, there is a right way to praise your comic book faves and insulting others is not the right way. Every company has their own way on doing things, sucking up the company asses won't give you money so stop being so butthurt about other people's favs. This applies to both way.
Back to the main point. Marvel does a good job doing it dark. Jessica Jones is twisted and brings you the sense of what someone can do if they exist in reality. It is chilling and 'send shiver down my spine' kind of dark story which I really enjoyed.
Jessica Jones is not a typical super-heroine who is cookie-cut perfect and cheerful all the time. In fact, she has done the superhero gig before and it didn't end well. The screenwriter for the show translate well the character from the comics, in my opinion. Jessica Jones is a bitch basically. She is rude and she is mean to people but that is not all it is to her character. In the comic, she is vulnerable and she has PTSD so you kind of understand where this bitchy attitude comes from. I like her character. She is rude yes but behind that rude exterior, she does care about somethings. Well-written character she is. And the show didn't change her whole character, she is still the Jessica Jones I enjoyed knowing in the comics.
If you read the comics though and like direct comic book to screen things, be alarm because they did alter the story a bit to suit the TV side of Marvel. Since Ms Marvel is getting her own movie, it would be costly to bring in the main character to suit Jessica Jones. Ms Marvel plays a big part in the storyline in the comics seeing that Jessica and her is best friends. Besides that, I think if they were to bring Ms Marvel in the show it means they would need to mention the whole cast of avengers in it. Jessica Jones will then be over-powered by these big-shot movie heroes and fade into the background. Though, they can just mention the Avengers briefly (which they did when they talk about aliens attack *ahem* Avengers) and her involvement with them but who knows, I am only at 3nd episode. Maybe they will in the end.
Check the show out. It is on netflix, Each episode is an hour long so that means I don't gave to wait too long for a new episode to release because one hour is always better than just a short 30 minutes.
Here is the trailer to better understand what the story will be like:
